June 1, 2003 - Striper Tournament Results. Traditional DRFA Tournament weather returned just in time for the first Striper Tournament – cold, wet, and miserable. Three lucky anglers did manage to report their catches. Congratulations, to all of them, first for braving the weather, and second for catching the fish.

#1 BOB KUNTZ – 31" long X 17" girth @ 11#
#2 LANCE MILESKI – 28" long X 15" girth @ 8#
#3 AARON SKOLNIK – 12" long X 8 girth" @1#

Congratulations Aaron, you're a real fisherman to go out in that weather. But next time let your Dad catch a fish or two, O.K.?

May 17, 2003 - David Bryant Memorial Smallmouth Tournament Results! Despite a threatening forecast, the weather held off and the river was at its clearest and lowest in the past few years, to provide the best fishing conditions in several years. In all, 21 out of 25 competing anglers weighed in legal fish. Bob Bonczyk took top honors with a beautiful 19", 2.92-lb. fish. Congratulations, Bob. Second place went to his fishing partner, Curt Kirby, who brought a 2.34-lb. specimen to the scales. Right behind Curt was Chris Hoffman, another frequent smallmouth tournament winner, with his third-place 2.25-lb. fish.

Not only were the smallmouth results as surprisingly good as the weather, but several club members also reported respectable catches of other species, including Curt Kirby's 35" muskie, Harry Bareuther's 22" walleye, Bob Napoli's 21" largemouth, Steve Raulfs' 19" walleye, and Jim Pocetti's 5-lb catfish.

With four anglers scoring in both of the first two tournaments, the angler of the year standings are starting to take shape. Rick Mawson now leads the way with 195 points based on two excellent catches. Click here for complete results and photos.

APRIL 26, 2003 - Shad Tournament Results! On another typical day of DRFA tournament weather, three club anglers managed to persevere to take the top three spots with several respectable sized fish. First place went to Rick Mawson for his 6.29 lb., 24-1/2 inch catch. Ray Przybylski captured second place with a 5.58 lb. fish. And third place went to John Jannett for his 4.72-lb. fish. A total of nine anglers weighed in fish. Click here for complete results and photos.

APRIL 26, 2003 - Note to Lake Nockamixon anglers. Club member Eileen Kicinski submitted this article she spotted in the Philadelphia Daily News.

Nockamixon Park closed pending water tests results

Environmental officials have closed Nockamixon State Park near Quakertown after a ranger noticed that someone had tampered with the locks protecting its drinking water supply. Several padlocks on the park's 500,000-gallon water tank had been undone, including one on the tank's gate, one on its ladder, and two on its hatch, officials said. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources shut off the tank and closed the 5,286-acre park pending tests to determine if the water is safe.

APRIL 12, 2003 - SHAD TOURNAMENT RESCHEDULED! Due to the poor water conditions and a poor weather report for the week, we have moved the shad tournament back two weeks to Saturday April 26. Same times and locations, just two weeks later. Please notifiy any additional club members you know. Thanks

March 10, 2003 - Trenton Power Plant Fishing Access Open! Visited the Trenton Power Plant yesterday. The gate is open and there were about a half dozen desperados slinging lures into the teeth of a 30 MPH wind. Didn't see anything caught, but noticed on the Internet this morning that yesterday's water temperature rose to almost 40oF before plummeting back into the mid 30s today. Won't be long now. Keep us posted on any increase in fishing activity by submitting an E-mail fishing report.

March 10, 2003 - FREE Fishing Seminar at DICK's! The Franklin Mills store of Dick's Sporting Goods will be hosting a fishing seminar on Saturday March 15 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Here's the E-mail announcement we received.

January 20, 2000   We closed the 2003 Fort Washington Outdoor Show today, perhaps with a number of membership renewals and new registrations. We will provide a more detailed report in the February newsletter.

Another good note is that Steve Raulfs was able to line up speakers for our first four monthly meetings, and we met several businesses that are interested in becoming sponsoring businesses for the club as well as Big Cat Shootout sponsors.
